Filyaw Family

February 7, 2008

Ok I know it’s been too long.  I’m not going to promise when the next update will be.

November:

The girls were supposed to dance at the McLeod Christmas Tree Festival.  Well they watched their friends dance and wouldn’t get up off the floor.  They looked cute in their shirts and hats, maybe next time.

Brianna’s class made Indian vests (with parental assistance) and then had a feast of KFC.  They sang a cute little song with all of the other 4K classes. She is doing great in school.  She was one of the couple to make it through the holidays with all of her feathers (they start with 5 and can loose them for poor behavior at school).

Grandma and Grandpa H came to visit before Thanksgiving (on their way to Hilton Head).  They helped me get the Santa pic with both girls.    We also got a lot of Christmas shopping done.  I got to pick out my gifts—new towels and new comforter set (the adult all matching fancy kind).  Thanksgiving was a joint effort.  Brian did the turkey and ham.  Mom and I made the fixings and Dad kept the girls entertained.  Brenda and Gerald had dinner with her mom and were only stopping by but it happened right when we served dinner—LOL so Gerald had two Thanksgiving meals!

The girls and I got to join my parents in Hilton Head for a weekend.  Kiersten started the trip in style by getting sick a few hours before we left and then again while we were there.  It’s turning into a pattern.  She must not like to travel.  We had a lot of fun.  They love the beach.  This is where I got the Christmas card pics.

Our church had a lot of fun activities for the kids during Advent.  They made Advent wreathes, decorated cookies (which were eaten after the Christmas eve service by some very brave people), and a white Christmas benefit for one of the local charities.  Everyone dressed up as their favorite nativity character.

We had many Christmas programs to attend. I do have some videos and I will really try to get them loaded.  Kiersten was a bit traumatized by her program.  She could sing the song at home but just was not happy with the crowd. She made it through and then started bawling.  Brianna sang at church and at school.  I was so impressed with the school program.  She really does a great job in front of crowds now.

Christmas was magical this year.  Brianna had asked Santa for one of everything, but a little more specifically for a Barbie doll house, new movies, and a bike.  Kiersten asked for a new paci—that was it!  So much for throwing them out. Brianna came running into our room around 6 am.  She was so excited.  “Mommy Santa was here.  He brought a dollhouse.  Sissy he brought a dollhouse.  Daddy there is something sticking out of your stocking.”  When we finally let them go check it out Brianna didn’t see her new bike for at least 10 minutes.  They both just love the dollhouse.  Santa obliged and brought Kiersten a South Carolina Gamecocks paci.  She loved it and told everyone who gave it to her.  I really liked watching them play with their new Bitty Twins.  Kiersten is really getting into the pretend play.  She was rocking and soothing her baby.  Brenda made a wonderful Christmas dinner!!!

I bought my own gift this year.  I traded in the minivan on an Expedition on the 24th.  Oh wow it’s huge and I love it.  We then proceeded to pack it full and head north on the 26th.  It rides well.  The trip was long but uneventful on the way up.  The way back was in snow from Dayton to South Carolina.  We went 20 mph through the Ky/Tn mountains and the NC mountains.  It was miserable.  Thankfully they girls slept for most of it and I got the DVD player to work for the rest of it.

The girls really enjoyed playing with their cousins.  Casey and Ashley got a Wii for Christmas.  They brought it with them.  I think the adults played with it more than the kids.  Wow it really does get you off of the couch.  You probably know I really do not like video games.  I have considered getting a Wii.  It was hilarious to listen to the guys talk about their aches and pains from “boxing” and “tennis”.

We have settled back into school and work routines.  Dance has started up again and parent watch was tonight.  Kiersten didn’t cry—she danced!!!!  It was so wonderful to watch her.  Brianna is a pro at parent watch.  Her class of 4-5 year olds is doing advanced (1st-2nd grade) moves.  It was really impressive.  I never get to see Brianna’s gymnastics class because it’s at the same time as Kiersten’s dance class.

Kiersten is signing with Brianna in the Half Notes choir at church.  Well she practices with them on Wednesdays.  They say she participates well.  She actually got 2 pieces of candy one night for really doing well.  She won’t sing with them during service—I think she would freak out a little, maybe in a couple more months.

Brianna can almost count to 100, we got up to 50 pretty easily the other night.  She also has about 2 dozen words she knows by sight.  Her speech therapy is going very wel.  You can actually hear a “k” sound every now and then.

Kiersten has moved up to the older 2s class at “school”.  She had no problem with the transition.  They do fun craft projects in the older class.  She is also potty training—ergh—is she stubborn.  I think she could do it if she wanted, but currently she doesn’t want to.  I think we just need to put her in panties and deal with the messes for 2 days. I’ll let you know how it goes if we do :)

One more Kiersten story—Peas up the nose.  That pretty much sums it up.  Let me preface this with I was not in the house.  Brian was in charge of dinner a couple weeks ago.  He turned his back for a minute.  When he looked back they both had peas in their noses.  Brianna had one and proceeded to blow it out.  Kiersten appeared to have 2 which he got out.  Well then Wednesday Nanny got another out.  Then Wednesday at dinner another bit of one came out.  So, then we had no idea how many were involved.  I took her to the PCP on Thursday—he was trying not to laugh in my face but it was humorous.  He was so sweet and gentle with her and she was a good patient and allowed him a good look in her ears, mouth and nose.  He saw what looked like another pea still in her nose but too far in for him to reach.  He sent us to the ENT.  The ENT used his fiber optic stuff to get a good look.  Yep, it had to come out.  Next came the teeny tiny suction hose.  Kiersten was not happy by this point and the whole office including waiting room knew it.  The ENT was able to suck it up for the cost of an office visit—thank God.  The next step was the OR!!!  It seems foreign bodies in the nose even if they are biodegradable are not acceptable and must be removed ASAP.  Needless to say Kiersten thinks the ENT is a mean Dr.  Hopefully she remembers that the next time she starts to put something up her nose!

Ok it’s late and I’m out of stories.  Check out all the new pics.

Take care everyone.  {{{HUGS}}} and XXXKissesXXX
